New X-Type Owner In Leicestershire

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Well a little about me... I have been heavily into the Jap/modified car scene for a good few years now, to the point where my MR2 Turbo is running 300bhp and gets garaged over the winter months. So after sending her off to be tucked away and treated to a respray, I needed a winter run around...

I planned on buying myself a banger to throw around and not need to worry about scraping or denting, viewed a few old Fords and Vauxhalls but I just didnt fancy them at all. So I trawled the net and found myself looking at a BMW E46, I was meant to go and look at it but the chap sold it before I had a chance! I wanted something reliable, comfortable and smart and realised most of the cars I had been checking out just didnt have what I was after!

So out of curiosity I went to see an X-Type. After looking at it and driving it, I was hooked! It ticks every box for me, heated seats, all electrics, full leather, reverse sensors.. Well you guys know these cars are fully loaded! So I agreed a price and left a deposit, caught the train back and picked it up last Friday.

Suddenly I find myself on the net ordering new X-Type fitted footwell mats, manuals and cleaning equipment! So what was meant to be a `cheap banger` for a runaround has resulted in a 2.0 V6 SE manual X-Type! I dont know how this one compares to the 2.5 and 3litre variants but I am chuffed with it, only driven it twice so far as it is solely a weekend car, I`m looking forward to Saturday to have a good spin out and play with all the buttons! I will pop a couple of pictures up soon, it`s very standard and I intend to keep it that way, just want to maintain it nicely. Hope everyone is well and having fun! Cheers. Dan.

Everything works on it, it`s a lovely drive and feels a solid car. There are a couple of blemishes but it is ten years old so I guess it is to be expected. The only thing I have noticed that really bothers me is the rubber seals on the doors seem to be bubbled up, I have found the part numbers on the net and just need to order and get them fitted/treat any rust issue laying underneath! It will be a pretty damn tidy car once I have sorted that I think!

HI Dan,

Welcome to the forum and Jag ownership. It looks like you've got a decent motor there. Mine still brings a smile to my face when I drive.

Happy motoring,

Dave

I`ve not noticed a huge problem with rust mate although I have found >> Suspension components wearing out, wingmirror motors like to die, rust bubble rear side windows lifts window rubber seal, engine light has a habit of popping on and can be hard to diagnose the fault. Mine is ten nearly 11 years old though mate so if you bought a newer car with lower miles you would have less problems no doubt, if you can get on 06 with say less than 80k on the clock I bet it would be beautiful. Mine drives/pulls well it just needs some TLC. It has gotten me the Jag bug for sure, in a year when the M.O.T is running down I`m going to chop it and bag myself an S Type with lower miles I wont mind paying more for the right car that comes up.
