Thinking about buying a 2002 XK

Featured Replies

I am thinking about buying a 2002 XK that was offered to me at right money.. has a good service history and only 70k miles. Very clean and very tempted to buy..

Any practical advice on what I need to be aware of..? I am quite mechanically minded and generally take care of my own light maintenance and service work.

I have read up on the cars and i joined this forum for some help and advice before i commit to buy my second Jag.. ( I had a V12 XJS many years ago and it broke my heart and my bank balance...! it was pre HE era)

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

See that you didn't get a whole lot of assistance from the club :o :o  .

I've been on other forums with a different make of car and the members were a lot more forthcoming with mechanical help and advice compared to the JOC - maybe there is a different mindset or complexity (?) when it comes to Jaguars? Perhaps most of our members are reluctant to undertake servicing and minor repairs - must admit I'd be happy to strip down a set of brake calipers - it's the putting back together and hoping they work correctly that worries me :D

How did you get on? Did you buy the XK?

Best regards,

Dave

Hello Dave... a voice in the wilderness

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I did end up purchasing the XK8 following a period of research. I dont jump into buying cars without checking out as much as possible and I find forums very helpful and useful. I decided to join the XK8 club which is dedicated to the car and I have a few small matters to sort out on my car which is a 2002 model. Nice example with a Jag service history and only 65,000 miles on the clock.

I am fine with light maintenance - general service is something I have always done myself and I have a mate who lets me use his garage ramp for any underside work. I enjoy the knowledge and getting to understand my cars.. have had all sorts from M5 BMs to Subaru GTBs.. couple of Porsches, Mercs... long list of stuff. I have always liked the XK and in Ireland with excessive road tax at €1800/yr for that engine size, these types of cars can be picked up for reasonable money. I dont do heavy mileage and most is done in my more practical 5 Series Beemer.

So there you have it.. I will pop by here from time to time and thanks again for your reply..

Best Regards

Paul M

Outstanding Paul, glad you found the XK of your dreams.  Sounds like you've got a good one :D

I've always liked the XK, when I came home reporting the finding of my S-Type to management, I said I'd been to test drive a Jag.  The wife asked if it was an XK, obviously approval for future purchase ;)

Saw a lovely model at Racing Green Jaguar, a XK8 Arden Convertible - under £14k - wonder if she'd accept me having two Jags?

Dave
