X-Type Diesel 'Clatter'

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I used to drive a 2005 2.2 SE diesel, which was really quiet.

Now I have a 2008 2.0 diesel, which has intermittent diesel clatter that can sometimes be quite embarrassing.

Any advice on additives or anything?

Hi RGJAG

Had the same problem, took it to the main dealer, told me it was the injectors, to have the refurbished its about £100 each injector + the cost for someone to take them out, to buy new replacements they are £150 plus,

I just recently had gave my car a Terraclean service cost me £108, suppose to clean injectors as well as the engine , my X Type is now running much quieter and getting a few more miles to he gallon,

May work for you the mechanic will do a few check ans will tell you if it will help and how

Check out terraclean they have a website , endorsed by Edd China

  • 2 weeks later...

I get the same annoying 'clatter' on tickover (approx 800rpm )

If I just tickle the throttle increasing the revs to just under 1000rpm the engine noise is much smoother.

With my car being an '09 model with only 42000 miles on the clock, does anyone think a Terraclean

would be worthwhile ?

ps.......I only use premium diesels.

Hi John

That's quite low mileage mine had 95k on a terraclean did help mine , when the terraclean agent came out to mine he done some checks first tot see if the service would help, but for £100 to get your engine clean cant do it any harm, I'm thinking of making it annual service,

Have you checked the aux belt tensioner that also clatters at tick over may need changing

Thanks for the reply Earl,I did think about the aux belt tensioner, but again the low miles that I have are throwing me off this theory.

D'ya think the tensioner pulley could be on its way at 42000 ?

I'm no mechanic John , just when I've had mine to the garage these are the things they were checking, may be worth a trip to the garage, is there not a jaguar specialist, around you, thing there's one in Huntington don't no if he's near you
