HELP Needed!

Featured Replies

Hi all

This is a plea for help! Just bought a 1987 XJS 5.3L V12. I was wondering if there was any entusiasts/mechanics who would like to give me a hand getting it back on the road. It has got problems with electrics (Windows don't open, speedo and fuel gauge don't work) It also needs four new discs and pads and welding to the exhaust.

Just stopped running this morning and now makes a clicking sound when I try to turn it over. Starter motor maybe?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm located in Caversham, Berkshire

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum.  I hope you get some response for your plea for help - a little outside of my skill set.  If you were a little closer to Ledbury I could point you in the direction of a XJS specialist - who at the very least you could discuss and get some pointers.

Good luck - you could always post phots and/or blog your progress.

Best luck,

Dave

Thanks Dave. I've worked out the clicking problem. Needed a new battery which was a relief! The specialist you mentioned, would he be able to talk to me about some electrical problems i have?

Thanks

Mark

Hi  Mark,

I'm sure he would, he's the helpful sort.  I'm in the garage on Wednesday, I'll ask him.

Best regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave. Electric windows don't work. Tried changing dead fuses and relays but no joy. Fuel gauge and speedometer doesn't work although rev counter does. Could this be electrical? Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Mark,

I had a chat with the garage owner, chap called Steve, didn't have time to ask about your specific problems but he would be happy to take your call and discuss the issues you have with your XJS, he's glad it's one of the older ones as he says there were many changes before Jaguar ceased production.

His name is Steve, call him on 01684 592271 - he probably wouldn't recall me by name, just say you're from the J.O.C. and I've spoken to you mention I drive the green V8 S-Type (he's all about cars).

Good luck,

Dave
