Hi had the same problem in December managed to open it by taking the plastic cover off under the car and putting a long screwdriver up to the latch. I needed a new cable which is quite easy to fit be taking the battery out ,Remember to make sure the bulkhead grommet on the new one is all the way in its hole or you may get leaks in the cabin. Hi all. Does anybody know where I can purchase both front exterior black window trims for my x type ,mine on the car have bubbled up and can't seem to find second hand ones anywhere,new ones are so expensive. Regards ricky

Hi yes not a good idea, better to take the Egr valve off and clean it and also the the plastic air intake, messy job but well worth it ,my x type now runs like a dream, regards Ricky
