Hello guys. First time member on here so hello guys. I'm on here because I have my s type sport 2006 diesel. My problem is just on 6 months ago my Jag developed a strange display of strange whistle and smoke from alternator. I thought at one point I was going to burst into flames. I kept my eye on this as never done it all the time just seems to do it when not long started driving from cold. I got told I was my battery or alternator. Battery voltage seemed ok but the car when driving would develop a burning wire smell. I came out the shops one day and car was dead. Got a friend out to diagnose my problem and he has previous Jag knowledge. He diagnosed it as a bad alternator. I got a second hand replacement from eBay and it fixed my problem. Six months later the same thing is happening again and the smoke is back. Car still starts for now but don't trust driving it at present. I have a battery light on also and same burning smell and whistle. I have noticed a very slight lack of power on acceleration also. Any ideas guys as your the experts.
