Hi Richard...I absolutely love my XF for many reasons, however if this is the only mileage you are likely to be clocking up then buy something else. The DPF will be a problem to you especially if like mine its the 3 litre (which incidentally accelerates like you would not believe for a car of its size). These cars are really built for the high road not the low road although a mixture of the 2 is fine. As regards unreliability I have had no issues whatsoever in 25 months other than the DPF which requires you to travel at a constant 70mph for about 20 miles which then clears out the filter. (Do not thrash it as some folk seem to advise). Just one other thing don't expect good mpg figures if your town or short run driving...(28 mpg max. and less in winter) Hope this helps.....Mick

Hi Guys again, Well after browsing the internet early this morning I managed to locate a company in Nottingham just 5 miles from where I live called MGC Servicing and I spoke to the manager Mike Clay about the issue with the DPF. What a great guy...His knowledge and expertise was just the ticket. I drove my car over there for it to have a diagnostic check and to have put right whatever was wrong. I arrived there at 12:45 and by 2pm I was on my way home..The total cost (£50)..I was even allowed to see the results of the diagnostics by the technician and none of this cloak & dagger nonsense. So now once again I'm a happy chappy and after a sharp learning curve I feel I now know a little about the prevention which will hopefully avoid the cure!!! Cheers....Mick

Much appreciate all the responses from you guys. The car is booked in for this Friday at the main dealer. I too had the old 'S' button engaged and locked in 2nd gear for 25 minutes (58mph) but the DPF message wouldn't play ball and continued to display. However I have to admit with not being a mechanic or having an awareness of what could happen with these sophisticated diesel engines I have learnt a great deal from the experience - I just hope a new filter is NOT required to rectify the problem ££££. Strange isn't it that the salesmen never make you aware of the possible shortcomings.. Cheers All...Mick.

Has anyone experienced the DPF message telling you your filter is now full? I have given the car a 25-30 min blast in 2nd gear (just on the red line edge) but the message is still there. I called the maindealer and some guy there claimed that it required a diagnostic check to establish if the problem had actually been cleared and it just needed a reset or worst scenario the filter needs replacing which apparently is very expensive, close to £2K I'm told. My car is a 60 plate 3 litre diesel which due to circumstances beyond my control has been exposed to mainly town/rural driving in my 6 months of ownership. :( Thank You....Mick.
  5. Hi Trevor - My guitar strutting 32 yr old nephew has sorted me out....Apparently under the settings of Bluetooth on my HTC phone there is a 'discoverable' box which should have been ticked which I wasn't aware of as I'm not much of a tecky guy so at least all is up and running now. Thanks again.. Mickiep.
  6. Thank you Trevor & Peter for your responses. I have made several unsuccessful attempts and as yet zilch...not even the appearance of a 4 digit number. Trevors suggestion to find a tecky teenager might turn out to be the best possible solution. Cheers Mickiep
  7. I have just gone back to my trusty HTC phone after endless battery issues with my Samsung Galaxy. The sim card I have just transferred also but when i attempt to pair up to the car there is no response at all. I own an XF 2010 model and it did pair up ok with the Samsung. As 2 devices are trying to connect to each other I have no idea which way to go.... :( Has any other XF owner had experience of this annoying problem.? Cheers Mickiep
