Thanks Joe and Peter,it sounds mechanical ,will be having a go at it in the next couple of weeks ,so I will keep you posted. I have downloaded instructions on how to remove the seat and the electric circuit diagrams from Jagrepair.com I dont know if any members know this site but it is fairly comprehensive with many common problems with photos on how to repair.

I am 71 and the proud owner of a 3 L S Type that as served me well for the last 13 years unfortunately a few things are now going wrong,the latest being the front seat tavel any experiences or advice would be welome.The operation has become intermittent and needs a good push to get it moving.I will be doing the repair myself with the help of a self taught mechanic ..
