Boot panel removal

Featured Replies

2002 XK8.The boot release button does not "acle", although the circuit through it is good and there isd 12v at the button input.  Suspicion falls on a broken wire to the solenoid from the button.  I have tried to remove the boot rear panel to get at the release mechanism by releasing the four "fir trees" and the four screw fasteners.  I have also taken off the rear lamp cluster inner covers.   The panel will not lift off and seems to be held just below centre and outboard of centre.   Are there other fixings I have not found?  New owner needs help.  Thank you.

Hi John

There are 4 hidden fasteners towards the bottom of the panel. You just have to give it a tug towards the front of the car and they pop off.

I've got mine off at the minute so if you aren't happy about yanking it I'll send a photo and reveal all

Cheers

Pete

Hi again John. Just remembered I had the same problem with mine a while ago and just opened the boot with the key, thinking I would get round to it eventually.  Strangely it just fixed itself after a while.

Good luck

Pete

Thank you for the offer of a photo, Peter, if your panel is still off.  I have swung on my panel until I fear for the fracture.  Can you be a bit more specific, if no photo, with dimensions roughly where the clips are?   A thought; we are talking convertible, are we?  Appreciate your help.  John

Hi John

Unfortunately it's all back together now, it's a convertible but I would imagine that they are all the same?

The clips are a couple of inches up from the bottom edge of the panel in a straight line and there are 4 of them equally spaced. You have to give it a fair tug to free them, I think I pulled it from the top towards the front of the car.

Good luck

Pete

I had to take the panel off again today as part of  another job I've landed myself. I'm trying to enclose some photos but struggling a bit . Hope you get them.

Indeed, yes.  I am in Botesdale.   The car is currently in the garage on SORN until the weather is warm enough for my aging bones.  I am on [email protected].  Regards.  JohnC
