The original headlight beam was practically useless when I bought the car, particularly on dark country roads.  However, I recently bought GE Megalight Ultra +120 replacement bulbs from Halfords (£13 for the pair).  Wow!  What a difference!  Its like having HID headlights!

Hi Baz,

I'm also a new X type owner and looking to upgrade headlights. Could you confirm the size (H1) and spec of the new bulbs you are so pleased with? Also did you fit them yourself and is that fairly straightforward?

thanks!

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Yes, the size is H1 (look for number 448 on the box).  I didn't fit them myself as accessing the back of the lights is not an easy job.  So, when my car went in for a service the other day, I got the technician to fit them for me.  Obviously, he charged me, but it was well worth it, considering the discount on the bulbs virtually paid for the fitting.

Hope that helps

Barrie

Thanks Barrie. That's really helpful. Yes I saw a guy fitting them on a YouTube video and don't fancy the job myself! Will lrave it to the garage. Appreciate your help.

Thanks for this topic. I was thinking my headlights weren't particularly good. I shall get them upgraded now that I know it's a simple job.

Popped to Halfords this morning and had new H1 bulbs fitted. I noticed the difference immediately. Thanks for the advice guys.

I put Phillips Diamond Vision in mine at around £20 a pair and they make all the difference , plus they are a lot whiter as you can see.

This is my first jag it's a 2006. And yes the lights are bad they only seem to be a car length infront of the car. Shall I try bulbs first or is it something else. Cheers Joe
