Hi Everyone - my first post - and as always - where better to ask for help than someone who has had the same problem ! I know you are out there. OK - bear with me - just purchased a 10 year old X Type - 1 owner , FJSH , 83,000 2.0L. Looks super - it replaces my 2003 X Type - 140,000 and very tired (of course I have had the pain of the DMF / Starter Motor issue).

So - first surprise - I have been getting a 5 Second audible alarm intermittent when the car goes into reverse - any ideas ?

Second surprise - after this happened three times , the starter motor engaged but would not turn , also the Radio then needed a code - indicating to me that some total electrical disconnection had taken place - the garage tested the battery and said it was knackered.

Could there be any connection between these two faults - I am now a little anxious that I have a fault which may be starting to short the battery.

The last issue is that this car is very very smokey - you know the sort - thick and black on acceleration - my old car did this too but only on the first big acceleration of the trip - the new car does it on every acceleration. How can I 'clean it out' and stop this happening.

Thank You Jaguar Friends.

Ann

Hi Ann....welcome to the Club

I would definitely say that a defective battery will cause these electrical faults and as for the smoking, I would add some fuel treatment and give the car an 'Italian Tune-Up' to clear it out.

Cheers,  Trevor
