Xtype 2.0ltrD 2006 engine mounting

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the site so hope this is in the right place.

Recently had the drivers side engine mounting vertical studs snap, resulting in driveshaft fouling the bottom suspension arm and tearing the inner joint boot off. Managed to get replacement studs and refitted with drive shaft repaired. My question is whether this is a known fault? or possibly studs left loose after some repair procedure. Also on looking at this mounting, and seeing it is described as a shock absorber, is there anything in the "turret" other than a large lump of rubber? Have been told these contain oil? is that right??

Would be most grateful for any advice regarding this. Many Thanks, David

Well, if anyone's interested, yes they are oil filled and they can rupture and leak. This is sprayed onto the timing case side of the engine and gives the impression of a fairly significant engine oil leak.  Hope this helps anyone else unfortunate enough to suffer a similar occurance.
