Potential owner seeking advice

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

I am currently looking at replacing my peugeot 407 diesel estate as my daily commute has changed and I no longer require a diesel. I am wanting a v6 and despite looking at various cars, I keep returning to s types.

My main concern is the size of the boot. We have a newborn so the boot needs to be big enough to take pushchair etc. Now I admit I've not viewed any cars so have not personally seen the size of the boot and would appreciate some owners comments on the same.

Kind regards

Mat

Hey Mat,

Welcome to the club. To cut a long story short I bought my first S Type new in 2001 and parted with it 8 years later having done 120,000 miles or thereabouts. Recently I decided to get re-acqauinted with the marque as my first was the only car I have ever regretted getting rid of and so I got myself a new old one, so to speak. That aside, access to the boot space is a little tight but there is plenty of room once you have negotiated the entry point. I am not well acquainted with baby buggies but have seen some monsters out there, the buggies not the kids, well ok them too. Most of the ones I have seen however will fit provided they fold reasonably flat, say 25cm, and around a meter long.

To give you some re-assurance I just traveled back from the out-laws in Bath to our home in Ludlow with the following tucked in the boot: -

1. Three veg boxes (the kind you can sometimes pick up in supermarkets = approx 90cm x 50cm x 20cm) full of apples - cider for the production of.

2. Around 20 oak floorboards (short lengths obviously).

3. Half of my wife shoe collection (don't ask - we had been to Cornwall for a brief break)

4. An assortment of wet wether gear including Wax Coats, Boots, et al.

5. A further assortment of shopping bags - of the bags for life type that seem to accumulate in so many cards.

8. Sundry bits and pieces I carry around just in case I have a need for the AA and they do not show up.

All without dropping the rear seat backs.

If I think on I'll get a photo of my boot, sans junk, and will post it here if no-one else beats me to it.

Good luck and hopefully you will soon be joining this happy bunch as a fellow Jaguar traveller.

A pair of wellies should have sufficed..

The boot is long front to back but I find it's a bit shallow floor to boot-lid. The best bet would be to post the dimensions of the buggy and someone's sure to take the time to run a tape over their boot.
