Driver's Door Handle Overtravel - Easy Mod

Featured Replies

So my driver's door handle wasn't quite actuating the lock all the time.  Thinking back to years gone by and various door strips on my older cars - easy thinks I.

Well it wasn't that easy, but a bit of tenacity and the Haynes manual helped.

Got the card off - only breaking 1 mount and 4 clips - why do they make that job such a pain!!  Anyway, window out, lift mechanisms undone and moved, lock undone, security shield out (very rusty) etc.

I noticed the lock bar can move down within the clip that holds it - it's only held fast by a plastic press clip.  It has to move downwards in its mount, but overtravel is only avoided by a fair wind and good luck.  So I ran a 9mm stiff nut up the thread at the bottom of the handle actuating bar.  That'll stop the bugger doing that again.  Works a treat now
