Loss of power

Featured Replies

Hows things folks,

I'm new to this forum as I recently just bought an xf rsport 2014 auto 163ps.

I've noticed that sometimes after being driving for an hour or so when I come to a stop at a light or junction, on trying to move off there just isnt any turbo, its like it crawls from 1000rpm to 2000rpm stutters past 2 but wont get to 3000rpm.

I just had the fuel pump replaced and wondering if it could be in relation to that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 😁

Thanks

Sounds like it's going into limp home mode, limited performance. Does the Engine Management light come on in the dash?

I've had this a couple of times. Was caused by a dirty fuel filter (easy fix, replace under the bonnet), and another time it was a sensor I think..  Not sure if that's a help, but it might give a clue..?

Thanks appreciate that, nope no lights come on the dash its just a loss of power.

With the fuel pump being changed I was thinking maybe filter or dirty fuel line, I am going to leave it be for the next couple of days and try get some stop start driving in if it hesitates again  it's back to the garage I guess, they already had it over 2 weeks just to replace fuel pump so reluctant to go straight back

Thanks

Sending it back to the garage first thing in the morning they said its limp mode but aren't sure why no lights are coming on.

The mechanic who changed the fuel pump said he needed to check something so I'm guessing hes made a simple mistake and fix it tomorrow,

Will keep you updated

Hi Dreche25..

I'm having the exact same problem you've experienced, my jag is 14 plate 2.2 diesel, after a while on the road it goes into a limp state whilst pulling away (traffic lights, roundabouts etc) creeps up to 30mph and the revs hit 3000rpm.. Very intermittent! Some days it drives lovely?! Did you ever find a cause?? Every garage I've taken it to have mo clue! no fault codes and no lights.. If anyone can email me I'd be really greatul [email protected]

Try changing the fuel filter - a partially blocked filter can cause the car to go into limp mode intermittently.

Yes, as above. I had this problem intermittently and changed the fuel filter and all ok after. Very easy DIY fix.
