Hi guys and girls, I've got a problem with my s type, 3.0 V6 2005.

Water pump was leaking, put a new one on with new top hose, all good !

Car was sat for a couple months before I got around to doing it.

Now car doesn't start, not cranking ! Everything else seems to work, all instrument lights come on, fuel pump primes up, PATS light illuminates for a few seconds then goes out.

Currently using brand new battery from my truck so no worries there !

I've been checking wiring and fuses, all seem good !

If I give starter relay an earth it will crank on the key but not spark.

I'm guess the ECU needs to send earth to relay ?

Something is telling ECU not to start car ?

Any help would be much appreciated !!

If it's automatic like mine, mine won't start unless my foot is on the brake pedal - are you trying to start the engine while standing outside?

Otherwise, I'd suggest it sounds like an imobilizor problem, although I'm not that familiar yet with this cars electrics.

Thankyou for the reply ! Yes it's an auto, I have tried to start but no luck, I think immobiliser is ok because the security light stays on for a few secs then goes out, I'm lead to believe the light with flash if there is a problem.

Hi! I had a problem with my S type, which was similar in as much as it wasn't used or started for a while and the battery had gone flat. When putting on a new battery it still wouldn't start. I called out a mobile mechanic and he connected up his computer and it showed the computer wasn't recognising the chip in the key, he thought it could be because the battery was flat. He couldn't do it because he didn't have the software to reset it and said I'd have to take it to the main dealer. So I called the main dealer and they said no problem they can do it, just bring it in. I asked how exactly am I going to do that, he just bring it on a transporter  as if that's not a problem and then told me how much the recalabrating would cost and I nearly fell off the chair. £243 +vat. That with the cost of transporting it I'd need to take out a mortgage. Well if that was what I had to do then that's what it would have to be. I then was told by a friend that owns an auto audio business that the electrical system and key mechanism is from a ford mondeo and the auto locksmith he knows used to work for ford and he sorted the same problem for a Jag they had done work on that the same thing had happened. He gave me his no and he came and sorted it out in no time. Now I can give you his contact details but the problem could be in where your located. I'm in South London and that's the area he works. If your in his area or he's prepared to travel to you and you can organise that for a fee I'm pretty sure it'll be cheaper than the hassle and cost of taking it to the main dealers. He charged me £130 which I was happy with. I'll look out his no, or you could go on his website which is 007 auto locksmith. Well I hope this is helpful to you and that you may be able to find an easier solution but it's always good to have as many options as possible. Good luck regards Mel
