Lights for the gear shift rotation

Hi all

This is my first topic.

I've owned a 2011 XF 3L TD Auto Portfolio for just over a year. (Mileage c.87000)

I have found recently that the lights sequence, on rotation of the gear selector, often goes out and I have to rely on the gear indication

on the main dash.

Is this a common fault and is a replacement unit necessary? I would appreciate your comments. Thank you.
