Battery compartment with corrosion

Featured Replies

My XJS sits for long periods as I refuse to drive in the rain. It also spent 28 years in a garage hardly driven. He told me he put a fresh  battery in just before I bought, but it is sluggish in starting. I took the cover off in the trunk and was shocked to see the buildup of white powder on the shelf! What’s the best way to remove and how do I prevent it from returning?   Thanks,  Charles

Bicarbonate of soda and hot water to get rid. Treat and paint the metal with rust treatment paint and a resin based primer then fit a battery that doesn't leak!

Sounds very like you need a new battery!

Thanks Dave, great information and with nice weather for the next few days, I’ll put your advice to work. Now I could just figure out what to do about my brakes! Jags are heavy cars and I just want to know that it will stop when needed…I’ve got to figure out the Teves ABS system! Thanks again
