This is normal and I think is the cabin air monitoring system - it is a (very) small fan. It can get noisy, but it should shut off after around 20 minutes. Helps if the car cannot "see" the keys.

The noise is mostly likely the aspirator fan behind the dashboard. This picture shows how much dust can accumulate on the sensor part at the grill. Removing the dash surround and thoroughly cleaning and blowing out with air may help.

Hi Phil,

I have the sane noise as you from my 2006 XK, it's been there from when i first acquired the car 3 yrs ago.

I've kind of got used to the buzzing and never attempted to fix it, but i did find this video on you tube should you be more inclined to have a go fixing it, please let us all know should you have a go at doing it!

Same I actually was curious and sat in my 2004 jag x type 3.0 to see how long the buzzing would continue and it buzzed for around 20 minutes then it stopped, but it happens pretty much every time I shut off my car...it's kinda annoying and I wonder if it's draining my battery
