Advice please with winter coming on about car cover

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I would appreciate some advice here. I'm currently enjoying my first Jaguar ever an XJ6 sovereign diesel, I bought it in May this year and it's a 2009. I don't have a garage big enough for it to fit in so it lives on the drive and doesn't get out every week as I'm retired, rapidly approaching the age of 75. I'm just wondering whether it's worth buying a cover to go over the vehicle if it's going to be a very bad winter as the last one was and there might be problems with starting as it doesn't get out on long regular trips. I know my brother-in-law cosets his Jaguar in a nice warm garage with heating switched on and all sorts but this is going to be living out in the real world. Any advice please?

I`ve taken the plunge and ordered a car cover, I had the choice of a half cover or the full cover and I went for "Just Jaguar" as they are secured round the very front and back bumpers and many others are underneath the actual car which doesn't suit the situation for my Jaguar.

I was going to order and pay for it, but they are out of stock and the firm said that with a hard winter probably coming on things have just gone totally "crazy" and they've never had so much business in their lives. Anyway I've ordered and will pay when they come into stock – – – I've gone for the full cover with the thought that the batteries for the vehicle are underneath the boot.

Best,

Alastair :)

Hi Alastair,

How did the full cover work out? Would you recommend the one you bought to others? If yes, can you identify the brand and company?

Best regards,

Dave

I`m not 100% but think it was from here and bought the breathable one at £115

I did keep the catalogue but its vanished now. Its a good cover abd has done well by my car just looked and its size E in its own carrier and everything for the XJ6 Sovereign

Best

Alastair :)

Thanks Alastair,

I'll have a look on the link and let you know how I get on.

I bought myself a decent cover two winters ago. I don't use it day to day but it's a God send when the snows arrive. I feel for the price I paid it was good value. Perfect fit over my XJ8 too...

Thanks Jagaman, I'll have a look at the link - I still haven't bought one yet - I've been thinking about the cost, but it is for my beloved Jag........

Best regards, Dave

Oh I agree, cost is always a factor. What I considered was the firstly the cost of my time spent cleaning off birdpoop, cleaning fluids, back breaking snow/ice clearance and how much of that saved time/energy I could spend on more productive activties. So now aside from people in my street constantly asking about my beautiful cars fuel economy for the hundreth time, now they ask where I got the cover and for how much and state what a good idea it is. Only they don't value their time/labour as much as I do. Some people just enjoy an hour before work moving snow around...yay!

I must admit, this is perhaps the other firnge benefit as my house is a few hundred metres from the town by-pass, I'm amazed at the amount of dust that gets kicked up and covers the car. I notice it the most when I've been travelling on work and the car has been sat for a few days. There's a justification if ever I heard one!
