I live in Malaysia, and over the last 2-3 weeks have the following frustrating electrical problems with my 2003 2.5l S-type:

  1. Initially, wipers came on (intermittently) with switch in off position. However, wipers worked OK on other settings.
  2. Then, wipers, headlights, front fog lights, front indicators, and interior lights all went off one night so had to abandon car. Next day, lights etc were back on again, but wipers still came on with switch in off position.
  3. Sometimes wipers won’t work at all on any setting.
  4. Today, wipers on intermittently with switch in off position, wipers not working on 2nd and 3rd positions, but working on rapid wipe position. Lights OK at the moment, but boot (trunk) won’t open with push button (opens with key).

I have checked seating of fuses, relays, etc.

Very grateful for any ideas/help.

Its difficult to diagnose electrical problems without using a multi meter but it sounds very much like a faulty indicator switch! I would try replacing it firdt then work from there

Hi Andy, Sorry for slow reply, but I've been wondering how to reply. There has been no real problem with the indicators, and so I am doubtful that the problem can be the indicator switch. Perhaps you could let me know why you think the indicator switch is the source of the problem.

Thanks and regards,

Joe
