  1. ordered a Bosch Bosch S4 Battery 019 with a 4-year guaranteed. the picture attached is how we got the boot to open. battery arrived tomorrow so will let you know if this solves the other issues too (window on passenger side). thanks for all your help!
  2. Hello all - thank you for the advice. I'll put a proper batter for the car in, and hopefully that also solves the window issue as well. my neighor helped me get the boot open, which was a bit of an ordeal! in the end, he connected the jump to the fuse box to get it open. the batter was branded "MEAN", which neither of us had ever heard of. so going to get a proper battery and think this will solve quite a few issues! Jason
  3. Hi Nige, I cant help but have had a similar issue over the last few weeks - the door gets stuck too high, so I cannot reset it. The window reset (holding up and down for 7 seconds) worked initially - but after some days the window would no longer go to the correct position. From what I have read - could be a battery issue, so I am going to replace my battery. Interestingly - my passenger door is also fine, its just the driver door..so your problem is not unique! Jason
  4. Hi Steve - i can do that, although the battery was just changed 2 months ago. Although the seller did admit to putting in a cheap battery - so perhaps that is the issue. Any particular batter recommended for a 2002 xk8? thank you
  5. hello - just returned from a 10 day work trip/holiday, and the car battery seems dead (alarm wont disable, no lights come on with the keys in the ignition). i just purchased the car a couple months ago, and the seller said a new batter was just fitted. any tips on what to do? another issue i was having over the past few weeks (could be related to the battery) - was that the passenger side electric window wont goes up too high, and wont seal the door. i tried resetting the window (holding the button all the way up and down for the windows to re-learn the proper settings). however, the issue did not go away. anyways - any help much appreciated
  6. Hello Nige, thank you for the detailed reply. The light hasnt come on again over the last week, thankfully. so will wait and see I suppose. If it happens again, i would be happy for a local indy to do the work for that price and save me the heartache. I hope it stays off time will tell! jason
  7. hello - my neighbor (an ex mechanic) has kindly agreed to do my oil and filter for me. Any recommended model/brand for a filter? i would likely buy online. for the oil i went to halfords and bought castrol magnatec 5w30 a5, but was £12.99 for 1L - which he said is very dear. so will look for a cheaper price online!
  8. So - the light hasnt come on for the last few days, so will leave it for now. yes - perhaps i should get an OBD reader - is there a specific one that does the job thats a decent price? thanks Russ
  9. Hi Russ, Thanks for the reply, appreciated. I look forward to learning from the forums. In terms of the history of the car, it has had two owners - one from Hertfordshire and one from London. Had 11 services during its 33k miles, and was only doing around 2k or so miles a year the last few years - so its in decent shape. Do you have a lot of experience doing your own mechanics? I am tempted to try and do a little more work on the car and try to troubleshoot myself with youtube and help from the forums..but I'm not particularly good at DIY. But perhaps with some patience i can learn and perahps even enjoy it! Luckily my neighbor is an ex-mechanic for BMW so he will do the oil/filter changfes (i'll try and learn) and change over the water and coolant etc. This is my only car (I take the tube to central london for work each day), so driving it once or twice during the week (5 miles here and there) and some longer drives on sundays. i was hoping to keep this car for the long run, if it doenst cost me too much to maintain. should only do around 2k-3k miles a year i imagine.. so far its a ton of fun, love driving her, girlfriend is in love with the car as well. and for a relatively inexpensive car, she gets a lot of admiring comments -moreso than other vehicles i have owned in the past. also a lot fun to drive. good luck with the search for the xkr. i would love the extra power myself, but this car came up with low miles and i like the black colour so couldnt resist!
  10. hello - i hope i am posting this query in the correct place, if not i will delete if told to! so - i recently purchased a 2002 xk8 with 33k miles (black with ivory interior, detroit alloys). i love the car, and certainly the most fun i've ever had in a vehicle!! however, over the last week, the ABS light has come on (along with a light in the centre of the dashboard, and an error message on the screen). the error is now gone/cleared, and i cant remember what the digital screen said - but i think it said somethign about "traction"... so - should i ignore this light/warning until/if it comes back? if it it does come back, any advice on how to potentially troubleshoot? any help much appreciated. i searched the forums for "abs light" but i could not find much info! thank you.
  11. Hello all. Very excited to own my first Jaguar (black 2002 XK8, detroit alloys, chrome grill, ivory interior with 33k miles). i had it checked out from someone recommended from another jaguar forum, and hte car had a relatively clean report. i also have a huge smile on my face everytime i drive the car...so thats priceless. Unfortunately, only had the car a month or so and have an ABS failure light that comes on/off - so will be looking to find a recommended independent specialist in London (I am in North London, but don't mind driving a bit for a recommended specialist!). if anyone has any suggestions for an independent specialist, please do help. Anyways, look forward to being a part of the community and hope to meet some of you in person at the meets.
