Try bending the contacts a bit, they don't always touch the battery properly once it's been disturbed.

XF weak paint?
Hi Stephen, at the risk of getting yelled at about spoiling the lines of the car, consider a set of mud flaps once it's been painted. Not a cheap set of generic ones, mind; you need the genuine ones - at a pretty extortionate price for a bit of rubber, it has to be said - if you want them to look right. Fitted a set to mine a few months back and the amount of crud they collect is quite spectacular.

Ne'er mind, it's done. Turns out the second contact that should touch the side of the battery needed twisting up a bit. Of course, it snapped off so I had to get the solder out. Next time it needs changing we might have to swap the car instead

Keyless entry issues
Anyone know what to do when changing the fob battery doesn't work? Was working fine, then got the message about low battery, put in a new CR2032, nothing... nada... zip! To make matters worse, the key blade only opens the passenger side - and his nibbs and I are both far too big to be climbing over the centre console. Is there a programming procedure somewhere? Can't find anything in the manual, and all I've found online mentions ignition key positions - not very useful with a start/stop button :( Help! LOL

Accessory position?
Thanks Alan, that works perfectly. Trevor, Dumb & Dumber springs to mind. Can't believe I didn't just prod it to see what would happen.

Accessory position?
I didn't mean a key slot, mine has a hole under the steering column to dock the smart key. Not entirely sure what it's for, but I think I read somewhere that it has to do with changing various settings. (It is right where the old Frontera's bonnet release catch was - a touch embarrassing when viewing on the forecourt. There I was expecting the bonnet to open... and... yeah, well... ahemm!) Of course, none of that matters if the spare's in the handbag. Which reminds me - we didn't get a spare, need to ring round the various dealers for a price.

I can solve that one; take the fob with you, then PMOI will get the "insert in slot" message instead. First time I got that, I had to get the manual out to locate said slot... only to find later that it makes no difference as long as the fob's in the vicinity next time you press start. "you will be shot to preserve the battery." I wouldn't be surprised.

Accessory position?
Is there some way to listen to the radio without everything else coming on? The start button without brake press seems to be the equivalent of a key operated vehicle's ignition position, whereby everything starts except the engine. If the equivalent of the accessory position is available, I can't find it.

In my case it's not so much how it's driven, but where. His nibbs is currently having to drive through a building site a couple of times a week to visit a client (came back with concrete splattered in and around the wheel arches last week and didn't tell me - the air was a deeper blue than the car when I found it (fully set) at the weekend!), and there are lots of narrow roads with overgrown hedges. I've just fitted a set of mudflaps today to help with the road splatter, but not a lot I can do about the local flora, unfortunately.

XF weak paint?
I've been wondering the same, since I find new chips and scratches on mine every time I clean it. I seem to be forever 'correcting' the paint job, which is all well and good for the scratches (here's hoping the clear coat is plenty thick), but trying to touch in the chips is a nightmare. I bought the 'Chipex' kit, but whilst the colour is spot on, the paint just comes off again no matter how little pressure I use. Complete waste of money :( Wonder who decided white was a good primer colour for indigo

The butler? I wish! No, I'm the one wielding the power tools and doing the manual work around here, whilst his nibs is a pencil pusher and thinks he's the only one who works for a living White leather and a dog, Trevor? You enjoy cleaning, then? I found some cleaner and conditioner that came with the settees, so I've tried that. The passenger seats look great, but the driver's seat needs something more thorough. I've ordered the saddle soap and will try that at the weekend. And in the meantime... I'm off to unblock the wet room drain... like I said, I do the manual work ;)
