  1. Try bending the contacts a bit, they don't always touch the battery properly once it's been disturbed.
  2. Hi Stephen, at the risk of getting yelled at about spoiling the lines of the car, consider a set of mud flaps once it's been painted. Not a cheap set of generic ones, mind; you need the genuine ones - at a pretty extortionate price for a bit of rubber, it has to be said - if you want them to look right. Fitted a set to mine a few months back and the amount of crud they collect is quite spectacular.
  3. Ne'er mind, it's done. Turns out the second contact that should touch the side of the battery needed twisting up a bit. Of course, it snapped off so I had to get the solder out. Next time it needs changing we might have to swap the car instead
  4. Anyone know what to do when changing the fob battery doesn't work? Was working fine, then got the message about low battery, put in a new CR2032, nothing... nada... zip! To make matters worse, the key blade only opens the passenger side - and his nibbs and I are both far too big to be climbing over the centre console. Is there a programming procedure somewhere? Can't find anything in the manual, and all I've found online mentions ignition key positions - not very useful with a start/stop button :( Help! LOL
  5. Thanks Alan, that works perfectly. Trevor, Dumb & Dumber springs to mind. Can't believe I didn't just prod it to see what would happen.
  6. I didn't mean a key slot, mine has a hole under the steering column to dock the smart key. Not entirely sure what it's for, but I think I read somewhere that it has to do with changing various settings. (It is right where the old Frontera's bonnet release catch was - a touch embarrassing when viewing on the forecourt. There I was expecting the bonnet to open... and... yeah, well... ahemm!) Of course, none of that matters if the spare's in the handbag. Which reminds me - we didn't get a spare, need to ring round the various dealers for a price.
  7. I can solve that one; take the fob with you, then PMOI will get the "insert in slot" message instead. First time I got that, I had to get the manual out to locate said slot... only to find later that it makes no difference as long as the fob's in the vicinity next time you press start. "you will be shot to preserve the battery." I wouldn't be surprised.
  8. Is there some way to listen to the radio without everything else coming on? The start button without brake press seems to be the equivalent of a key operated vehicle's ignition position, whereby everything starts except the engine. If the equivalent of the accessory position is available, I can't find it.
  9. In my case it's not so much how it's driven, but where. His nibbs is currently having to drive through a building site a couple of times a week to visit a client (came back with concrete splattered in and around the wheel arches last week and didn't tell me - the air was a deeper blue than the car when I found it (fully set) at the weekend!), and there are lots of narrow roads with overgrown hedges. I've just fitted a set of mudflaps today to help with the road splatter, but not a lot I can do about the local flora, unfortunately.
  10. Decided on Gliptone in the end (it adds to the leather smell). This was before I started: ... and after the first treatment: I think there's a significant improvement, but it does need another treatment.
  11. I've been wondering the same, since I find new chips and scratches on mine every time I clean it. I seem to be forever 'correcting' the paint job, which is all well and good for the scratches (here's hoping the clear coat is plenty thick), but trying to touch in the chips is a nightmare. I bought the 'Chipex' kit, but whilst the colour is spot on, the paint just comes off again no matter how little pressure I use. Complete waste of money :( Wonder who decided white was a good primer colour for indigo
  12. The butler? I wish! No, I'm the one wielding the power tools and doing the manual work around here, whilst his nibs is a pencil pusher and thinks he's the only one who works for a living White leather and a dog, Trevor? You enjoy cleaning, then? I found some cleaner and conditioner that came with the settees, so I've tried that. The passenger seats look great, but the driver's seat needs something more thorough. I've ordered the saddle soap and will try that at the weekend. And in the meantime... I'm off to unblock the wet room drain... like I said, I do the manual work ;)
  13. Thanks, reasonable price so I might give that a shot
  14. I've always been a fan of Autoglym inside & out, but Since the XF's the first car I've had with leather worth caring about, I wondered if you guys have any opinions as to the best leather cleaner & conditioner. I'm currently torn between Autoglym & Gliptone. Any opinions?
  15. I used to live above Holmfirth, trust me when I say Sheffield winters are nothing. I used to have to dig both myself & my grandad out on a regular basis. Probably shouldn't be talking about winter when summer has barely started, but I'm hoping it does snow, and heavily, so we can have the day off just like everyone else :) I have to say, I thought it looked black in the photo, but you're right, it's indigo.
  16. Hi all, I'm new to the forum and new to Jaguar. My fella & I finally said goodbye to our 12-year-old Frontera (yep, if we get a bad winter, it's our fault, but in our defence, it was costing more to keep on the road than it was worth) and 5 days ago took ownership of our first Jag. We fell in love with the brand when we first spotted a billboard with the "Cat got your tongue?" campaign on it, but didn't think we'd ever be able to afford one. When the current "It's good to be bad" campaign started, that was it; we had to have one. It took a few months to find what we wanted (an XF or new shape XJ) at a price we could manage, then a week ago, it appeared; A 6-year old 3.0L V6 XF Luxury with under 50k miles on the clock and full history. The asking price was a bit more than we could afford, and had already been reduced, but we managed to get the price down, and it now sits proudly on our drive. (Or in the case of this photo, outside the local pub - the inset our moggy trying to imitate the front badge.) We love it - it's definitely good to be bad!
