Hi everyone,
New to the forum and seeking help please for my 2007 s-type 2.7 diesel auto.
I was driving to France earlier today and everything was fine until I got on the A16 motorway in France heading towards Lille. When I got on the A25 motorway, I could spot some white smoke in the mirrors. I thought it was coming from the exhaust pipes. No warning lights on the dash so I kept an eye on the whitish smoke but it seemed to have disappeared. A few miles later, approching a slip road, the red light with "engine coolant low" came on. I left the motorway, stoped and opened the bonnet. And I could see a completely empty water tank and lots of steam coming out of the engine bay.I removed the engine protector and there I could see plenty of coolant spread over the engine components. A nearby farmer brought me a large bucket of water and filled the water tank. When I turned the engine on, we could spot a huge water leak from under the engine bay. Called the RAC and got recovered to the nearest garage in the country side. Garage man told me he would look at it tomorrow as it was already late. Though, he suggested it would not be a head gasket as water flow was too big so he's thinking of probably a pipe or hose somewhere?? We tried to spot the leak but no chance at all.
Has anyone experienced such a big water loss as it seems there is no more coolant at all in the engine? What could it be? Can you please help me from your experience? I got to destination very late evening but the car is now 60 miles away from where I am in France. Anyway, if that can be of any help, the car starts fine and even drives as the recovery man drove it up on the truck fine. I started it again to park it at the garage. Temperature guage is down to cold but I guess the sensor is now useless as there is no coolant in the engine.
Many thanks for those who can help me source the cause. Insurance told me they would call me tomorrow to give me a diagnosis when they speak to the mechanic.
Sorry guys for being too long but just tried to explain as much as I could.
