I have been researching into the question, "Can vehicles (cars) still pass an MOT Test if their original Halogen Headlights have been upgraded to either HID or LED Bulbs.

There seems to be an awful amount of opinion and conjecture on this subject.  BUT, as best as I can find in a legal stance, it appears to be that any originally fitted halogen lit headlamp car first registered after 1st of April 1986, would still fail an MOT. As per Special Notice 01:21headlampt conversion.

Below are links to :

GOV.UK MOT Special Notice 01:21, which attempts to clarify the situation.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions/mot-special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions

A long article by well known bulb supplier ABD , which seems a very comprehensive explanation of the situation.

https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/blog/the-brightest-car-light-bulbs/

Personally I am NOT (and would not) suggesting that they should not be fitted (as that is a right of choice for every individual). However I do have an opinion that the offence is not in using them (as this would be very difficult to establish direct evidence at the roadside) but that the problem will occur when an MOT Tester finds these type of bulbs (again depends on how strict the examination is ). One thing I am sure of however, is that being the owner/user of a Jaguar S Type, it is not going to be easy for an MOT examiner to identify what actual type of bulb is being used by sighting (direct evidence) the bulb without time consuming (due to not easy access) removal of the backing to the headlamp unit.

This submission does not take any account of matters such as dazzle to other road users etc., which of course is altogether another discussion.

This legality (or not), is in my opinion, up to each and every individual to make their own decision. I have just attempted to provide some information which can be read and digested before making your own decision.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Posting in the hope this helps others with what seems to be a fairly common fault.

2013 XF Sportbrake....

My hazard lights were turning themselves on randomly. Initially, I was able to pull over, switch off and turn them off using the dashboard switch but it developed into a fault where they would remain on despite trying to use the switch to turn them off. The only thing left for me to do was to disconnect the battery and leave it. They ususally remained off for a few minutes when I reconnected the battery again but would inevitably come on a gain at some stage of my journey.

I had recently had the rear fusebox replaced as a result of historic water ingress causing some connection errors, so I knew it wasn't that.

A visit to Preston Jag Centre (Recommended for Lancashire dwellers) was again required and after just an hour of investigation they were able to identify the fault to be a mysteriously damaged wiring connector in the offside 'D' Post. Apparently it was a tricky job to get their hand up into the wiring loom which ran up into the roof lining after removing the inner trim, but it now seems to have done the trick and I'm back in love with my Jag.

XF for sale
Hi I am selling my XF due to family and work demands.

I just do not get time to drive it and feel its a waste just standing there.

I will buy another next year, when I can devote more time.

I am looking for £5500 or nearest offer.

It has a transferable warranty that has just over 18 months to run.

please PM me if interested.

Jaguar Land Rover brings Tool Manufacturing in-house with £1.7M Halewood investment
Jaguar Land Rover has started manufacturing its own press tools in-house for the first time following a £1.7m investment at its Halewood plant

What is E10 Petrol and Can My Car Run It?
What is E10 fuel and why is it being introduced?
The reason E10 fuel has been introduced as the standard grade fuel at forecourts across the country is to try and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This fuel is made up on 90% regular unleaded petrol and 10% ethanol. Current petrol grades in the UK (E5) contain up to 5% ethanol, with the rest being regular unleaded petrol.
The Government claims that the introduction of E10 petrol at UK forecourts could cut transport CO2 emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year – the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road.

Fuel Crisis - and is it improving?
So what's behind the crisis?
The key issue is there aren't enough drivers to supply petrol.
There's an estimated shortage of more than 100,000 HGV drivers and petrol is only the latest industry to be hit.
The lack of drivers has caused problems for a range of industries - from supermarkets to fast food chains.
Fuel tanker drivers need additional safety qualifications on top of their HGV licence to be able to transport chemicals such as petrol.

Jaguar XF and XE R-Dynamic Black
The appeal of the award-winning Jaguar XF Saloon and Sportbrake is heightened further with the introduction of new R-Dynamic Black models, while the Jaguar XE R-Dynamic Black gains an enhanced specification.

XJS racing TWR
Don't know how original this one is, but it isn't used much although apparently runs.
