hi I know this is a well worn subject I blanked the egr on my last jag the results were great smoother running engine no smoke but a real dirty job cleaning valve and manifold .

My question is why do you clean valve and manifold befor blanking I would rather not disturb anything and just slip blanking plate is this wise.

I have a 09 reg 2.0x type I have no problems at all with it but thought I would be worthwhile what do you think your thoughts and comments would be very welcome .

Hi Pete, and welcome to the club.

 

Buying and keeping one of the last models of any car is often a good bet.  With a Jaguar, it is a better bet!

 

I have thought about partially blanking the EGR valves on my s type - the V6 has two and you cannot fully blank them -  but when the P0402 code appears, it is either a good blast on the A38 or a can of Wynnns Diesel EGR cleaner for about £8 which works and saves doing a very mucky job.

 

At my age I don't bother about getting my hands too oily any more, and if something easy works, I tend to do that.

Thanks for reply I blanked of egr on my last jag as it was smoking under acceleration and sometimes go into limp mode.

After blanking the smoke was gone it didn't go into limp mode,engine just purred and got 6-8 mpg more was very pleased with results so am going to blank this one as well.

I just can't work out why you have to take the egr and manifold off clean them dissterb it all just to blank it out of use or am I missing something.

I don't know the location of the erg valve on the x type, but I do understand your quandary.

 

The s type has an egr valve at either side of the V6 engine, and they can only be partially blanked for some complicated reason.

 

There will be several members with x types who may know.

I got the engine warning light on yesterday   ---   Code P0402   --  meaning the EGR valve was stuck - and the electrical system was trying to open it.

 

A good blast on the A38 cured it, but a small bottle of Wynne's system clear out was put in to help.
