fuel filter maybe?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have just aquired a 2003 Jaguar X Type, petrol 2.1 V6 and there is some what seems to be lumpiness and split second cut out periodically whilst driving.

Is there a known issue or could it be something like the fuel filter perhaps?

I also have the EML on which I was told is a CO2 issue an again I can only assume it may be one of the O2 sensors?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

hi steve a bm I had many years ago had similar prob, it would cut out at times on start up. not being mechanical minded I took it to dealers whom fixed it. turned out to be fuel pump, but the service guy explained to me it can be crankshaft sensor or the fuel pump. mines was the fuel pump. you could alwas try changing the fuel filter see if that helps. joe

Thanks Joe I am leaning towards the fuel pump as ive recently noticed some petrol odour from the rear, nothing major but you know that hint of 'how much is this going to cost'  :)

steve try ebay or local scrap yards get a good second hand one just make sure its in working order/ you could phone dealers or google up jaguar parts places see their prices. fitting  a good indy garage will do it no problem just ask them for a quote

UPDATE I have read a few forums and lead to believe that the MK3 Mondeo fuel pump will fit and work as an alternative to a Jaguar branded one at a snip of the Jaguar cost, has anyone come accross this before?

steve   the x type used to get called the poor man s Mondeo. as both wer made by ford. you could be right but do your home work ect  joe

Alot of the running gear is like for like but you never be 100% certain but at a cost of £50 for a brand new pump I might delve a little deeper and ill let you know the results

ok steve just make sure best of luck

The fault code was given to me by the seller, not the actual code just the result of the read, so you could be right on the possible fault, I have only just aquired the car so still learning the ins and outs, I thought there was more than one sensor so didnt want to start replacing all if it was just one? I am just about to buy a reader and hopefully this will pin point at least one if not all of the issues and I do agree a faulty sensor can make all the above occur, as for servicing it is due one for sure but looking for a mechanic I TRUST other than main dealer is always the issue, I am tempted to go back the the guys who looked after my BMW M Sport and see if they are confident in looking after the Jag as well, the current mileage 150k and no service history to hand im afraid
