2001 XKR fuel tank issues

hi all

my 2001 xkr developed a leak in the fuel tank, prior to this i could only get about 20 litres of fuel into it.

my questions are:

1. are these 2 things related?

2. if not, has anyone got advice on repair of fuel tank,,,can it be done? it seems to have corroded underneath on the spot welds?

3. again if not related what is causing the issue of not been able to fill with fuel?

 

worth mentioning i have owned this car for 10 years, but it has been in my garage very rarely used for the last 4. 

it has covered 53k miles
