Thinking of having the fluid changed in the auto box, gear changes being a little erratic at the moment, to me there seems to be a little too much variation on the up changes between  gearbox cold 2.5 revs, and gearbox hot 2.0 revs, it also seems to hold 5th for what seems like an eternity. I would be obliged if anybody could furnish me with any info concerning the speed/revs that the gears change up. Regards all

Hi Ian,

The speed your gearbox changes up is dependent on a few variables, load, throttle setting, which engine you have etc but for reference I have the 4.2 V8 with the same 6 speed ZF you have and it generally changes up somewhere between 1700 and 2000 revs.

ZF recommend a service including Oil and filter (which I think is part of the sump) at 100,000 km

Mike, do you find there is a variation at which the box changes up from cold to hot, if I hold at 2000 rpm cold the gear changes are considerably slower than when the fluid is hot, just wondering if this is common to this model as this is not consistant with the box in my XJ8.
