2001 S type auto gearbox leak

Folks have a small leak from the auto gearbox on my S type 2001 ( 5 speed ), the leak is coming from ( through )  the rotary switch I suspect the seal on the input shaft is faulty.  How do you remove the shaft can it be removed without taking the gearbox sump off, I have the seal.
