Is my X-Type dead

Hi there I'm the proud new Owner of a 53 plate 2.0 X-Type diesel. But after owning the car for a week it broke down on the M62. Other cars were passing me and motioning me to pull over, on parking up she was smoking like a train and sparks were coming from the exhaust, there was no lack in power or any lights on the dash.

Has anyone else had the same problem and or is it fixable?

Any help would be great fully appreciated

Not sure if this applies to diesels but it  sounds like an "Italian tune up"

Funny thing is I did take it for an itallian tune up before this started. There is now what's best described as juddering or hesitation when accelerating
