Hi all im new on here but need help before my car drives me mental, i have a light on the dash that looks like a bent/curly wire that keeps coming on and cuts the engine dead but when you turn the ignition off and then back on it starts and runs for a short time before doing it again, theres nothing coming up in codes so has got me at a loss all help apreciated

Welcome to the club, David.

I am assuming you have a diesel engine in your car.  The curly wire means that there is something wrong with the glow plugs.

Not being a mechanic I would not have a look at them myself, and would take it to the garage which does my servicing.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter

Hi David,

I am a newbie here myself and like you have a 2004 X-Type, (2.0D Classic), which also has this problem.

Can I suggest that,as a first step, you have a fuel injector leak back test carried out. In a lot of cases this type of problem is due to to one or more bad injectors.

However as I'm finding out there can be a number of reasons for this fault as I've have the injectors refurbished and the problem is still there. I've also replaced the fuel filter which can also be one of what seems to be many possible causes.

Regards

Colm
