Rear park sensors

Featured Replies

Has anyone changed a rear park sensor on a 2006 s type. My centre right one has gone according to my computer gizmo. I have sourced one in the right colour , but I hear it is a night mare to do.

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary

When I got my 1999 V8 S-type I had all sorts of varied noises from the rear parking sensor alarm system. The only way I could get to the sensors was by taking the rear light clusters out so that I could access the rear of the sensors. It appears my faukt was set up by a garage removing the rear bumper moulding without disconnecting the sensor wires but rather "pull it off" and the connectors borke as a result.

If you try my route you may find you get a number of scrapes on the knuckles, wrists and fore-arms. I was able to carry out a temporary 'fix' but am dreading replacing the sensors at some time in the near future as it looks like the bumper asembly must come off (unless somebody knows different?)

Thanks, looks like bumper off job, the later ones you can't get at the middle one.

Waiting for the weather to get better to do this job, and low and behold they suddenly started working coming back from work tonight, how strange!

Presume must have been water in one which dried out with the warmer weather today

Hi

could be the connector on the sensor with damp in it, or a corroded connector

it might be worth, just undoing the lower  bumper fixing in the centre, you might have enough space just to get your arm in and get the sensor out and check the connections

cheers

its stopped working again so that must be the problem,

Hi Gary

Found your questions on the parking sensors issue which is the same as mine. I have replaced all four rear sensors and a new module and i am still not happy. All are ticking but you have to be inches away from a post before it beeps. Backing up to a wall or car is ok but much too close before getting the warning for my liking. I noticed it takes time to respond and it that time you have moved back closer to the object!!

Mines a 2006 and the bumper must come off. There is a PDF on the web which gives enough info may find it somewhere on here. I had a Rover 75 conniseuir which beeps as soon as you put it in reverse and beeps slowly as you move backwards and the pulse of beeps quickens as you move closer to the object. Way better than this system. Sensing distance much greater in the region of 5 foot!!!

So my point... You may be lucky and replace the sensors and all will be fine but I think the New Sensors don't work as well as they should either. I am looking at an alternative system to replace this lot of rubbish asap.

Will be interested to hear how you get on.

Good luck

Peter.
