Good morning all

Featured Replies

Good morning!  I'm a former classic car enthusiast (well, still an enthusiast but I haven't owned one for quite a few years) and always used to run interesting cars, especially sporty saloons (typically old Lancias).  Never owned a Jaguar (and currently still don't) but yesterday I had a test drive in a couple of XE's (a 180 and a 163).  Really, REALLY liked them both!

I'm in the market for a new company car and the 163 Sport R looks a cracker and good on tax too, so the question is;

What should I know about / be aware of / ask about?

Every car has its quirks, so I would be very appreciative if someone could advise me about the niggles / questions that you spot within the first few weeks / months of ownership of the XE.  Don't pull your punches; I'm probably about to buy this thing so what should I know?  What am I letting myself in for?

Thanks.

Hi Carl....welcome to the Forum

I love the old Italian saloon cars and in particular Alfa Romeo's....should have bought some up when they were still cheap!

I will repost your post in the XE forum section as there may be more responses to your questions in there.

Cheers  Trevor

Hi,

I drive an XE Sport R but with the 180 engine and absolutely love it most of the time. However there are a couple of niggles which are perhaps peculiar to me.

1. I find visibility is poor when pulling out of side roads especially angled ones.

2. Steering wheel only adjusts up and down, not in and out and for me I would appreciate a higher setting still.

3. Boot isn't as big as it looks. It wont take two large suitcases.

Regards,

Les

Hi Les,

I have had many cars and found issues with most of them.  Each had their plusses and their minuses.  I find that my s type has poor visibility at the corner of the windscreen due to the A pillar, but on the other hand the 2.7 diesel has great economy and fantastic torque, and is a driver's car.  My Rover Sterling 825 had great visibility, waa filled with every bell and whistle you could imagine, but was a passenger's car.. It could also take two sets of gold]f clubs on their trolleys in the boot when other cars I have owned do not.

The vagaries between cars are great, and you soon get used t the differences,

I just enjoy my Jaguar.

Regards,

Peter.
