Featured Replies

Hi all new to the forum having a lot of problems with my x type diesel started by light coming on an engine running rough scanned it come up with egr fault code ok so ordered 1 of them 2 days later slave cylinder went so ordered a new cluch kit an slave fitted all at same time cleared down faults 5 days later car breaks down faults show sensors so fitted new camshaft an crankshaft sensors clear down faults now have a open circuit a egr code I've got the hump now put it into garage to be told it's a faulty crankshaft sensor they replaced it an brought the car back left the car idling while I cleaned it as it still felt like it was running rough looked at dash light is back on called the garage back now there diagnostic says a different sensor so they questioned there auto electrician who says it has 2 egr valves an it's the second 1 that's 700 quid to repair but I grew up with a family of mechanics an friends who don't know what he's talking about so now I'm completely lost anyone here had this problem

Hi Paul, and welcome to the club.

You haven't said which diesel engine is on your car, or the year, which would help.  I did think  that the x type diesels only had one EGR valve which  can be blanked off without causing any problem. The part for blanking it off costs about £4.

Running rough can often be helped to get better by a can of Diesel Magic or a  similar  additive.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi yeah sorry it's the 2.0d on a 07 plate originally the auto electrician said the 2nd ecv could be blanked an remapped to cure the problem an now he says you can't do it on my one even the owner of the garage was confused by what he has said an knows nothing about a 2nd egr

Hi Paul,

Thee are quite a few members who have blanked off the EGR valve on the X Type diesels.  It does not need remapping, either.

I am concluding that the garage you are using know less than me about diesel engines, and I was an accountant!

I think that there have been several good You Tube videos on blanking the egr valve.

I would also look for a new garage.  Perhaps there are some members local to you who can advise.

Regards,

Peter.
