S Type EGR valve replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm part way through removing my driver-side EGR valve. I've kind of got stuck. I had read online that with a flex head 8mm spanner and a universal joint socket to remove the torx bolts this job wasn't too tricky. However, I just can't seem to get to the two bolts underneath the EGR valve. I can reach them with my fingers and get the spanner on them, but the valve itself is blocking me from turning the spanner.

Has anyone done this job themselves? Can I remove any of the stuff around EGR valve to make it easier to access? I'm thinking the fuse box and the wiring that runs next to the valve. I have loosened it all but it's still just getting in the way.

I have to pick my son up from nursery at 4pm, help!

here are some photos of where I currently am.

Any advice or moral support would be really appreciated! Thanks, Dave

PS having very recently replaced my passenger-side EGR valve at an indie garage for about 300 quid I'm trying to not have to do it with this one.

Hi David

I have recently replaced both EGR valves on my 2.7 S type and believe me, it is not a job I would do again. The driver's side is somewhat easier than the nearside but a B***** none the less.

Like you, I tried every tool in the box but eventually I resorted to releasing engine mount on the offending  and jacking the engine up an inch or two. This made access a little more easier.

Best of luck.

Martyn

P.S. I bought the parts from a Land Rover website - Same parts but cheaper than Jaguar listed items (£130 for both)
