Hi all,

lve  just  started a bit of a project. Xj6 4.0 sovereign 1994. It's been stood for a few years but moved around a bit.its going for an MOT this week to see what it needs to get it on the road.ive had a look around it and what I've seen so far is this.

INTERIOR-backs of the front seats have come away ( the plastic bits), the headlining has sagged, radio doesn't work, air con needs gassing up,mirror movement knob has broke off.

BODYWORK-isn't to bad a few little marks, wheels are all oxidised.

ENGINE AND RUNNING GEAR- no oil leaks starts first time with key.blowing from front of exhaust, there's some bushes clunking front and back, maybe sub frame.

the car has done 52000 miles with two owners.i know there only worth a few grand at most.seems a shame to put it on the scrap pile.

any opinions on weather it's worth saving!?

cheers

washer bottle not working.

bushes need doing but not a fail.

project on!!

Hi Fran, and Welcome to the club.

The MOT is a good guide and it will be nice to see your XJS on the road again.

Some pictures would be nice when you can get the time to put then on the site.

Regards,

Peter.

as you can see the interior has got a bit tatty!

Hi Fran,

Welcome to the club and congrats on the acquisition and mot result. From the pictures, and the list of To-Do items from your friendly neighbourhood MOT station, you're going go be fairly busy. The big cats though are always grateful for a bit of attention and will be a friend for life to someone offering some genuine TLC.

The wheels will probably be the easy bit though. In my neck of the woods £60 a corner will get them sand-blasted and powder coated, to almost any colour - I had an old cast iron pub table re-furbed a few weeks ago and some clown was having his(?) wheels painted Pink for crying out loud - but thankfully they were not off a Jag.

There are lots of folks who in the club who will be able and happy to offer advice on the other To Do items if needed and some will be able I'm sure to point you at good suppliers in the Manchester area.

Cheers and enjoy the adventure ahead.:wolfwood:

Hi

got the car mot'd.

two new front shockers, brake caliber and a few other minor things.

next is the interior which is booked in next week.

a question to anyone out there, both alarm fobs are broken,so key only.ive been told they can't be fixed but some ford ones will do the job.does anyone know if this is correct?or if I can get jaguar ones made up?

also the mirror knob on the drivers side control panel has snapped off.where can I get a matching replacement?

thants it for now till next payday!

cheers

Hi Fran,

Nice to see a classic Jaguar being looked after.

Curiously, I had a visit from an XJ owner, and he actually showed me his key fob and said "You can see Ford owned Jaguar  --  the key fobs are Ford.".  While this answer solves the question, you could check out Jaguar Classic parts which might have the mirror knob also.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks peter

ill try them for the mirrors.

ive just had a little ride out anti lock light is on and  ,the cruise control doesn't seem to work  either ! Could just be a fuse.

im  going to give Wigan jag man a ring on Monday to get it plugged in to the computer and get to the bottom of any gremlins!.its been stood for a while ,but I'm sure most things worked last time it was driven!hopefully it's  an easy fix.

nice car of yours that!!

Just spent all day clay baring the car,it's come up nice.

so a thought I'd give. It a run. 15 mins in the volts drop and the battery light came on! Just made it back ,it konked out on the drive!!lucky that.

might be the alternator,as it's a new battery!!

b*****d! Haha

Hi all, sent the fobs off to a place in Stoke to have them reconditioned, there's a few that seem to do it for most cars.

if they can't fix them there's no charge,so it's worth a go.

ill post results if anyone's interested.

Got the new fob back,it looks good but it still needs sincronizing to the alarm £70 +vat.

gone in for the seats and roof .neally done the list!!

had a run to the lakes and back, car drove nice no problems.everything works!

That's great news Fran. Good to hear that another Big Cat has been saved from the breakers. Keep us posted as I'm sure the XJ will keep you entertained for years to come but hopefully with a minimum of the oily/greasy sort.

Cheers
