hi

dont know about the XJ, but on the S-type its not that easy

the legal requirement for HID lights is that they are self leveling, projector type lights and have headlight washer.

for a start on the S-type, all the connectors on the headlights are different, as is the wiring

also you would need sensors fitting to the front and rear suspension and to be legal they have to be self leveling

also to be legal they have to have headlight washers. so if you went to Jaguar it would be a very expensive job, if they would even take it on

it would also need the headlight leveling module installing, programming and calibrated.

you could fit after market LED or HID kits off ebay, but you get lots of light beam variation, hence why factory HID are all projector type beams and this eliminates this

the S-type also requires the bumper to be removed as well for bulbs to be changed on the HID versions, which can also be a pain

cheers

Hi Joe, thanks for the info, it looked a lot simpler to me,from looking at the headlight units on ebay they looked the same as mine with regards to the fitting, the plug looks the same and the unit looks like it would slot straight in,however, I didnt realise that there were so many legal requirements, may be best to forget the idea, btw,I also have to drop the bumper on the XJ to fit a bulb, had to do this recently as the lights had condensated badly, I didnt know how to drop the bumper,it turned out to be easier than I thought, gave myself a lot of unneccesarry work in learning,eg, removed the whole splash guard.
