Hi there everyone,

I am new to the club/forum so excuse me if i am going about this the wrong way. I have just bought a F type R 550 with the ceramic brake pack on 20" wheels. I was aware of the ups and downs with the ceramic when i bought the motor but i just loved it. Looking ahead I was just wondering if anyone has come across suppliers of ceramic discs/brake pads as dealers are a bit pricey, Alternatively looking in the future ( car has done less than 20k miles)  is it possible to revert back to steel (what does it entail) and where is best place for the parts. I have looked at the obvious suppliers for steel discs etc any advice/pointers would be appreciated.

EBC makes a ceramic/composite pads that don’t squeek nearly as much.  
I just put cross drilled/slotted rotors on all four and EBC redstuff pads. So far....ME LIKEY!  
I can hang out in the power until it’s seemingly too late to brake effectively and make the turn, but still be able to brake and make the turn!  It’s ridiculously wonderful if you drive you’re f-type the way it’s meant to be driven. Ya know....It is an entry level supercar that with only a few 1000 dollars in the right place can actually turn a sub 3 second 0-60 time and roll low/mid 10’s in the quarter mile.  Spec that against a hurrican or a 570 or whatever...it’s there.  Yes I love my F-type!!!  
Anyhow...No fade that I’ve noticed yet but I haven’t had it to the track to really push it but, from what I can feel now....ooooh yeaaaaah!!!  She bang!   Lol

EBC also makes a yellow stuff ceramic/composite pad that’s more focused towards track performance needs.  I’ll probably take a set of them when I go and see if there is any considerable difference in the two.

Also....

there are no warranty issue by running other pads instead of oem Jaguar.  And EBC is a proven high performance company and theirs pads are a fraction of the cost of oem.

Stoptech makes great rotors if you want to replace with conventional rotors.  And as it is, The stock iron rotor/metallic pad setup on the f-type is killer but, the drilled rotor/ceramic pad combo is a definite must if you find yourself needing to stop aggressively, repeatedly for some reason.  😂😂😂

Guys,

My 5 Ltr AWD F Type went in for the 40K Mile Service last week, unfortunately though, whilst carrying out a Brake Fluid replacement which I hadn't requested,  (Just part of the Service Sir!) they have managed to snap off one of the bleed nipples, OK, enough of a problem with Standard Callipers however, my vehicle has the full Jaguar Carbon Ceramic Brembo option! 

Has anyone got/had any experience with the same issue?  The garage says that they can be drilled out, helicoiled and a new replacement bleed nipple inserted, sounds easy enough however, with the cost for a new calliper block (Jaguar Main Agent, just over 1500 quid, those of a cynical disposition might comment, well they would say that wouldn't they!!)

I am not convinced that this would be either a safe or even viable option, all or any sensible comments would be gratefully received.

take the caliper off and send it to Big Red, they refurbishi calipers to new condition and they do that sort of job every day and would only cost a few hundred pounds to fix, phone them and they will give you a price, quick turn around aswell

Many thanks for your prompt reply which is greatly appreciated, if these guys are effectively, "just on the doorstep" so to speak, it could be worth the "offending garage" giving them a try, I have printed off the contact details of "Big Red" for their note when they have the car back next week to sort this issue out for me.

 

I have to say that I was pretty pi**ed off with their antics as I had not asked them to do anything with the brakes whatsoever, the car is just my daily driver, not tracked or driven stupidly (although that is not for me to say! 🙂 ) and there were not any issues with the brakes when it went in! simply, my regular 8,000 mile service, oil filter, the usual etc's replace front and rear diff lubricants and additionally, being an electronic diff, the transfer box too .

 

As per my first mail, I can understand them not wanting to brass up for a new calliper but giving me some nonsense about paint on the calliper causing the problem just inflamed the issue! I have a graduate engineering background and I am no prepared to listen to this rubbish, the callipers are in first class condition, the paint finish is as it left the factory and it is simply a surprise if the other three bled out satisfactorily without issue, the principal causation then being that it was only some ham fisted mechanic without any patience who broke the blo**dy thing off!!   

Anyway, enough of the rant, thank you again for your contact assistance ...

Hi David, you should be aware that in a normal braking system the fluid should be replaced every 2 years as brake fluid absorbs moisture and that is not good in a braking system. This would be why the garage did a brake fluid replacement during the service - it is standard every second service,
