Satnav "Browse" mode

This morning  I got my door-lock changed at the dealer and on the way home, my Satnav screen started to wander all over the map.  I noticed a screen button "cancel browse mode", so I touched this and everything returned to normal. Then a couple of minutes later, the same thing. I've never noticed this before in the 2 years I've had the Jag. The handbook shows the "cancel Browse mode" button, but I cannot fathom how the "browse mode" is initiated in the first place. I don't want it and would like to know if it can be eliminated permanently.
