Hi All, I’m new to this forum and Jaguar cars in general. Always had German cars. Always wanted to own an XK or XKR from when I first sore one all those years ago!

So, a few question which I’m sure members here can easily answer. The question is

First question: The model year. I really like the 2006 XK however, I’ve seen the newer models (I think 2010) that come with the newer electronic gear knob. Is it worth paying more for the newer model? Does it drive better? Is reliability better? Etc anything else that maybe worth buying a newer model?

Difference between XK and XKR? Apart from the supercharger/power and cosmetics like bonnet vents and quad exhaust. Any other differences that I should pick the XKR over XK like reliability etc?

Also, this would be a car that I will keep long term. Are there any guides on the forum with common faults that I should look for before purchasing?

Thank you in advance 😊

hi

earlier ones with the J gate are mainly 4.2 and some people say the 4.2 are much smoother than the later 5.0

the later pop up gear knob ones are 5.0, which has more power, esecially supercharged versions

depends what you want in performance xk 4.2 n/a ar 300 bhp, xkr 4.2 sc 420 bhp, and the xk 5.0 n/a 385 bhp and xkr 5.0 sc 503bhp

but its worth test driving both as the 4.2 and 5.0 do feel different

as for rust, check all the underside, especially rear quarters, lower rear and lower front by the sills

cheers

Joe
