Help! Fully Charged New Battery But Car Completely Dead

Hi All,

I am new to car ownership in general and particularly to ownership of a 1998 XKR. As my partner needed to go on a long trip (800+ miles) she wanted to be sure of the battery, we went to Halfords and bought a compatible replacement. I checked that it was fully charged and it was showing as having 13v, after connecting it there appears to be no power at all to the car. It does not start (or try to), there is no power to the instruments or windows etc, and to make things by opening the door to try the ignition the window has dropped. I know how to reset the windows but of course there is no power! To make things worse, I am in the Highlands of Scotland and it is now snowing!! Any ideas?
