Gunk in coolant

Featured Replies

Got gunk in the coolant system what’s the most common cause

whats the best way to clean coolant system

many thanks in advance

That tells you one of two things, firstly there is a problem with the head gasket, or if you are lucky it is just caused by condensation, if it is the second one just take the car for blast, put some mileage on it.

I would do give it bast, because even a compression test is going to cost these days.

Hope it goes well, keep us informed.

Mechanic didn’t think it was the head gasket, thinking it’s more than likely a intercooler

hi

usually wrong coolant or mixing different types of coolant

you dont say what model you have, but only models with water/air intercoolers are the supercharged models, every other turbo model uses air/air intercoolers, also intercooler would not cause dirt in the system as there plastic and aluminium

if its oily residues in the water, then best do a sniff test and get the auto oil cooler checked, as on some model the gearbox oil cooler is built into the radiator

but flush it with lots of water and refill with correct coolant, which on most Jaguars is OAT, should be a red/orange colour

cheers
