Alarm sounding

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

The alarm on my 05 3ltr V6 has started to sound for some reason, it's the sounder that's in the engine bay on the driver's side.  I've had to disconnect the battery to silence it so getting it somewhere is a problem, plus I have a misfire on cyl 5 and it's booked in for that to be be looked next week as well as its annual MOT.  Any ideas as to the problem and possible solution please?

Thanks

The rechargable battery inside the alarm box fails, then the alarm sounds the time. A garage will simply disconnect it. I think I will look at mine and see to replacing the batteries, but probably only when it starts to play up

You will probably discover that the rechargeable has leaked over the printed circuit board

There are various options to attempt to replace the rechargeable batteries within the "auxiliary sounder" which is what folks are referring to here, i.e. not the main alarm sounder. The auxiliary sounder is generally located in the wing arch, behind the headlight. However, I understand that the original batteries are not generally available. It is additionally complicated due to there being a change of design to the auxiliary sounder, so need to check whish you have.

Sorry for the rather late reply.  I had to get the car to a specialist due to an ongoing engine management issue and three months later, yes 12 weeks, I have eventually got it back, some specialist.  Whilst it was in there they tried to find the fault with the passive alarm but to no avail and have simply removed the horn.  There is still a problem though as when I unlock it the indicators flash as if the alarm is activated, but obviously no sound, I then after to press the unlock button again.  I'm thinking it's one or other of the sensors, I know it's not the overhead sensor as that was temporarily removed, but what others are there and where are they?

Thanks again.
