Ingenium Timing Chain Replacement

Featured Replies

Help please

I have a Jaguar F Pace R-Sport 2.0 diesel (automatic) which unfortunately broke down on the motorway, It literally came up with a oil low level warning for about 10 seconds and then displayed the message that the engine performance would be restricted and then just stopped. I had to quickly get it off the road and reluctantly started the engine again which sounded awful, I just managed to get it off the road before engine stopped again. I called the RAC who would only tow me to a garage as it was a "Ingenium" engine and the RAC mechanic would not start a "Ingenium" engine due to known timing chain issues. I wish I knew that these engines (2016) have a sub standard timing chain before I bought the car 8 months ago, to be fair I knew car was high mileage 105k and made an inquiry with local Jaguar specialist who told me the chain is designed to last the life of the car.

Car is now in a local garage but will not even be looked at for a couple of weeks, and then who knows. My concern is also I have seen some comments that a replacement timing chain could be upwards of £3500. Has anyone had a similar issue, and if so did they manage to get their car repaired for a more realistic price. I have changed a timing belts on a Citroen car before but looking at the Jaguar 2.0 engine it looks so complicated and I guess needs special tools.

Any help / advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

would try shopping around, problem is now the chain has failed it will have cause extra damage which will cost on top of having the chains done, its costly as the timing chains are at the back of the engine, so gearbox has to come out, or most garages choose to remove the complete engine as its actually quicker

but you need to get prices, just a quick google found this https://www.kmotors.co.uk/common-faults/2-0-ingenium-timing-chain/

contacting them may give you a better idea of costs

cheers

Joe
