HI

THE 2 WARNING LIGHTS ABOVE THE SPEEDO,AMBER AND RED. THE AMBER ONE COMES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, WHAT'S IT WARNING ME ABOUT? CANT SEE ANYTHING IN THE OWNERS HANDBOOK AS TO WHAT IT MIGHT BE.

The 2 lights you refer to seem to be indicators that there is a message which can be read in the message centre, immediately below. The amber light seems to be related to the fact it's cold outside, according to your message centre indication. The red light typically means that one or more doors / boot / bonnet are not closed properly. The following is from another forum:

"You have a message centre, little LCD panel that displays mpg, miles, etc. just below the speedo?
That red light is the message centre warning light.
Does your message centre display a message / fault?
There's a long list of faults that RED indicates, from door ajar to abandon vehicle and take cover!
According to the Handbook there should be an associated message displayed on the LCD readout.
The only REDs that do not have an associated message are:
Restricted performance
Security failed"

Given your additional post regarding difficulty closing the bonnet on your car, may I suggest the red light and the bonnet not closing are linked issues!

Your profile does not specify your fuel type but if it is diesel I think you may be looking at DPF full warning lights. If it is diesel it may be worth taking it for a run at 60mph for 30 minutes which should allow the dpf to regenerate but really I would advise getting the DTC codes read (really easy to do with a cheap reader from amazon, or any garage should be able to do it for you for less than £50.

Hi John.

It's petrol. Took it out earlier and it never lit up once. Another member said it was to do with the cold temperature, which sounds feasible.

....So not DPF 🙂

I would still advise looking at the codes as that should help you identify the problem. I assume there is no associated text shown in the info screen when the lights come on....

THE ONLY TEXT THAT COMES UP IS "LOW TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE"

...If the temperature outside is below 4C then it is simply working as it should.  It is to warn you of possible icy conditions when driving, if warmer, then the outside temperature sensor is probably faulty, or there is a poor connection to it. My previous XF would intermittently show a temperature 11C below the real temp before the sensor was replaced. Not a big deal except Air Con also used that sensor to control the internal climate 🙂
