Hi Ian, Does the squeak sound like it is in the car or engine bay?

Hi Ian, Does the squeak sound like it is in the car or engine bay?

Yes sounds like plastics are rubbing on the colum but there not.

Hi Ian, Was hoping someone might respond to your problem as they have not, I googled your problem

The squeak comes from the bushes that connect the horn etc

remedies one is to add an additive to the power steering fluid, available from Jag dealers, people say that it cured it

also some people have tried lubricating these bushes, but you will have to google to find the answer how to do that

Lastly, someone changed their steering rack and that cured the problem

Hope the above has helped and that you get the problem resolved, keep us updated,

we are trying to update this site, with more activity, problem solving, car meets etc. biggrin.gif

Hi thanks for the reply I had heard someone changed there rack but I'm hopin not to :) I'll go in to jag within the next few weeks and see what they say :)

Good luck Ian, I would ask about the additive first, cheaper option and people do say that it works, keep us updated. Alan biggrin.gif

Hi Ian,

Did you have any success in eliminating the squeak? I ask as I've recently bought an S-Type with the same problem, at the moment it doesn't bother me as I'm either listening to the engine (V8 power :D ) or I've got the stereo pumped up. I dare say in the coming years it may become more of an issue - we'll see.

All the best,

Dave

Hi. I had squeak on my 3.0 s type too. It seemed to sort its self out. Not much help I"m afraid.

Hi Neil,

You say it sorted itself out, over what sort of time frame?

Hi there

Did you sort out the squeak on steering as I have same problem on 51 plate 3.0, going to investigate at the weekend if weather is ok as I am sure it is coming from the area behind the plastics as when I sprayed with wd40 it has gone away for bit but now back, hoping to strip it down then spray with grease ans see if this works, to me sounds like a dry bearing.

Hi Wayne,

My squeak disappeared on its own, I did nothing not even a squirt of WD40 - doesn't help you much as you say you've already tried WD40 without perminent success.

Good luck

My squeak is still there did some investigating and you can not here the squeak outside the car so I am sure it is coming from behind the plastic cowling inside the car, will be taking cowling off at the weekend to investigate more, hopefully get some where, it does not effect steering at all just a annoying noise.

Bought a bottle of the power steering additive from my local Jag dealership and squeak has know gone.
