I have 245x45xR18 tyres on my XF and was wondering if it would be ok for me to fit 225x40xR18 winter tyres. (I have a set of hardly used ones that I had on my Alfa).

Many thanks.

After more research and phone calls, I've decided that the difference between these tyre sizes is too risky, not just for driving characteristics, but also for insurance purposes, so I'm just going to sell my old ones and get some new winter tyres to the correct spec.

It can be done and streched on of course, alot of people do it for the look alone! But probably would reduce your grip which kinda defeats the object in putting them on in the first place.

Hi,

I have an XF 3.0 D S. Wheels are 255x35x20. I'd like to fit some Winter tyres on some new rims this year. Im looking to drop down in size. Whats the smallest rim I can go for, is it 18 or 19 inch? And can I also go on some narrower rubber? Say 225 x 45 x18?

Thanks

John
