I have a 2009 XFR and noticed when I purchased it that the coolant level was just below the minimum line of the expansion reservoir when parked on level ground and the engine was cold. Since then I topped it up as I would any car to the max line. The car then proceeds to lose somewhere a certain amount of coolant, returning the level to just below the minimum level and then the loss stops. Is this just a thing with these cars that the coolant perhaps expands quite a bit and vents out so the level in the expansion reservoir must be kept slightly lower than the on tank guage would suggest? I always thought if you lost coolant you had a leak, simple as. But then if that was the case, it would continue to empty it further than just below the min mark wouldn't it?! Any advice would be most appreciated, cheers

I've not been able to find out any more information about your problem, I would suggest looking in the owners manual to see if it mentions coolant fluid levels. If that fails to shed any light on the situation, maybe taking it to a garage would be best, just for piece of mind. Good luck.

Thanks Adam, still haven't found anything and despite a good number of very different driving styles, now the coolant level is just below the minimum mark it has stopped there. Scene as it only drops from the max mark down to that level and is not dropping anymore, it just seems to like being at that level?! Rather than it being a coolant leak which would continue to drain wouldn't it? I am interested in what may cause the initial loss but I think it's not of such concern that Ill get it in to jag as I really don't think it's a leak that causes it. I suspect that the coolant might expand a lot more than i thought and perhaps vent fluid out of the pressure release cap maybe? It is a strange one huh?
